Brunswick Co. Board of Commissioners to meet Monday, 6:30 p.m.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet on Monday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Included on the agenda are the following:

  • A proposed renovation request to provide additional office space for the District Attorney’s Office on the third floor of the courthouse
  • An agreement between Brunswick County and the Brunswick Senior Resource, Inc. to provide health insurance coverage
  • Recognition of 1st Sgt. Thomas Tolley for impacting community efforts via volunteering
  • Earth Hour resolution for Keep Brunswick County Beautiful
  • A proposed contract between Brunswick County and the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the purchase and installation of four storage buildings
  • Approval of Single-Family Rehabilitation Program 2011

Brunswick Co. Animal Shelter to close on Saturdays beginning next week

Brunswick Co. Animal Shelter to close on Saturdays beginning next week

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Brunswick County Animal Shelter, located on Hwy. 211 in Supply, will be closed on Saturdays beginning on July 23.

According to a news release, the shelter hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for the office and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the kennel.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Brunswick County Health Department recently selected Susan Ward as the employee of the quarter for April through June of 2011.

Ward is a Clinic Medical Records and Registration Processing Assistant and has worked at the Health Department for 12 years.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — A great crowd of business leaders met Thursday night at The Grape & Ale, 8521 E. Oak Island Drive, for the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Business Networking After Hours.  

 These events are designed to allow members of the Chamber an opportunity to meet and do business in a relaxing atmosphere after hours. 

The event was co-sponsored by The Grape & Ale and 3 Cheers Party Rentals. The next After Hours will be held on August 11th at Ocean Trail Convalescent Center in Southport.

Two incumbents will run unopposed in St. James

ST. JAMES, NC (WECT) - Two councilman seats are up for a vote this year in St. James.

The incumbents, Jim Donnelly and Bruce Maxwell, are the only ones running for the job.

The term is for four years.

Another candidate joins a crowded race in Oak Island

OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) - Civic spirit is alive and well in the town of Oak Island.

Friday, Carol Painter decided to join the mix of candidates running for three open council seats.  She joins Danny Kiser, John Ramsey, Reece Simmons, Mary Snead, Bettie Thorne and Jeff Winecoff as candidates.

Mayor Betty Wallace has opposition too with Bob Seidel.

McIntyre to attend ribbon cutting of Brunswick Novant Medical Center

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre will attend and speak at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Brunswick Novant Medical Center opening on Saturday, July 16.

The Center will open its doors to the community for a free sneak preview event from 1 to 4 p.m.

Participants will reportedly have the opportunity to tour the new hospital and see the Center’s special features. The facility will open to patients on Sunday, July 31.

“We are excited to welcome community members to their new hospital,” said Denise Mihal, Brunswick Novant Medical Center president, in a news release.
