Supply men arrested after agents seize over 200 oxycodone tablets

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office agents arrested two Supply men after a vehicle and residence search resulted in the seizure of over 200 oxycodone tablets.

Agents reportedly performed a search of a vehicle operated by Zak Randall Spaulding, 22, and his passenger, Clay Alfred White, 39, on Monday, July 11 in the parking lot of a Hardees. They found 102 tablets of 30 mg oxycodone. They then went to the two subjects’ residence at 652 Ocean Highway and found another 120 tablets.

Both Spaulding and White were charged with one count each of trafficking opium and given a $200,000 secured bond.

More candidates file to run in Brunswick County

More candidates file to run in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Three more communities in Brunswick County picked up candidates for public office.

In Oak Island, John R. Ramsey signed up to run for council.

In Varnamtown, Vicki Brunton and Dusty Varnam are both running for alderman.  For the Dosher Hospital Board of Trustees, Lawrence K. Banks filed to run.

The filing period runs through July 15th.

Vehicle enters Intercoastal Waterway near Supply

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Frankie Shane Culbreth was in a vehicle that went into the Intercoastal Waterway, near Browns Landing and Stone Chimney Road in Supply, Monday night.

According to April Gause with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Culbreth was rescued from the waterway and taken to the Brunswick Community Hospital to be treated.

He was reportedly released without serious injury and the vehicle was recovered.

Authorities locate body of missing man in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Authorities have recovered a body at the mouth of the Cape Fear River Wednesday morning just after 11.

According to Southport Police Chief Jerry Dove, the sheriff's helicopter was flying overhead searching for 44-year-old Eddie Hill who jumped off the Southport municipal pier Monday.

Dove said the body was found just off Caswell Beach, near Bald Head Island.

Free sports camp for children being offered in Southport

Free sports camp for children being offered in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - There will be a free sports camp for children in kindergarten through sixth Grade from Monday, August 1 through Thursday, August 4 at Shoreline Church, located at 4198 Vanessa Drive in Southport.

Christian Adventurers, a sports ministry based out of Graham, will be bringing 40 teenagers to Southport to put on a sports camp with a Christian emphasis focusing on basketball, cheerleading, and field sports.

This sports camp is free  and registration takes place each morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday. The camp hours are 8:30 a.m. until noon each day.

BSL mayor gets challenger in election

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The race for Boiling Spring Lakes mayor is officially underway Tuesday.

Incumbent Mayor Richard White, who filed earlier to run for re-election, is now being challenged by Craig Caster.  Caster signed up Tuesday.

Also in BSL, Barbara Glidden and Thomas K. Von Voight signed up to run for commissioner.

In Varnamtown, John D. Dawson is now running for alderman.

The filing period runs through Friday.

Officials call off search for missing man in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT/AP) – Brunswick County and Sunny Point rescue officials called off their search Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 for a man who fell from the Southport municipal pier.

Ambulances arrived to the search scene after officials called of the search.  They were called to assist several relatives who reportedly fainted.

Even though the search was called off, Brunswick County Search and Rescues continued looking for the man Tuesday afternoon.

Crews continued efforts Tuesday morning to find the man who was seen falling from the pier to the waters of the Cape Fear River, but they were unable to locate him. 

Siblings say Eddie Hill, 44 of Supply, was swimming with his family, who lives in Southport, Monday night.
