Some new faces emerge for office in Boiling Spring Lakes

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) - There will be two new commissioners this fall in Boiling Spring Lakes.

There are two seats open and six candidates filed to run for office.  They are Mike Forte, Barbara Glidden, Rick Murdaugh, Jack Redmond, Juanita Rollyson and Thomas Von Voigt.

The race for mayor will also be contested.  Incumbent Mayor Richard White filed to run for re-election, but Craig Caster filed to challenge.

Three seats -- three candidates in Bald Head Island

BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WECT) - Three councilman seats are up for grabs in Bald Head Island and there are three candidates signed up to run.

The filing period for municipal office closed Friday afternoon.

Incumbent Gene Douglas joined newcomers Bob Helgesen and Ken Miller as candidates for town council.

Mayor's race gets competitive in Oak Island

OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) - Bob Seidel signed up to run for mayor of Oak Island Thursday, giving incumbent Mayor Betty Wallace some competition.

Wallace is serving her first term in the south Brunswick County community.  Bettie Thorne signed up to run for council.

Two candidates filed to run for the Dosher Hospital Board of Trustees -- Howie Franklin and Karen J. Taylor.

The filing period ends tomorrow.

Robbery suspect wanted in Cumberland, Brunswick counties

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Detectives in Cumberland County are looking for a man accused of robbing a deliveryman in the Fayetteville area.  That same man is wanted in Brunswick County, according to detectives.

The robbery in Fayetteville involved a man delivering food from a Chinese restaurant.  Detectives say while the driver approached the door of a house on Reno Drive, a man came up behind the victim, pushed him into the home and beat him.  That man and another suspect robbed the driver of cash, cell phone and car.

The suspects were last seen driving off in the stolen red, 2003 KIA Spectra.

Detectives want to find Antonio Damonte Livingston, 22, who is also wanted for a robbery in Brunswick County.  He's 6 feet tall with black hair that is sometimes worn as dreadlocks and brown eyes.

Supply men arrested after agents seize over 200 oxycodone tablets

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office agents arrested two Supply men after a vehicle and residence search resulted in the seizure of over 200 oxycodone tablets.

Agents reportedly performed a search of a vehicle operated by Zak Randall Spaulding, 22, and his passenger, Clay Alfred White, 39, on Monday, July 11 in the parking lot of a Hardees. They found 102 tablets of 30 mg oxycodone. They then went to the two subjects’ residence at 652 Ocean Highway and found another 120 tablets.

Both Spaulding and White were charged with one count each of trafficking opium and given a $200,000 secured bond.

More candidates file to run in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Three more communities in Brunswick County picked up candidates for public office.

In Oak Island, John R. Ramsey signed up to run for council.

In Varnamtown, Vicki Brunton and Dusty Varnam are both running for alderman.  For the Dosher Hospital Board of Trustees, Lawrence K. Banks filed to run.

The filing period runs through July 15th.
