Former school board member will look for a spot again

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Former Brunswick County school board member Ray Gilbert has announced he will run for a spot on the board again as a Democrat.

Gilbert said in a press release that he wants “to work to ensure parents and students have a voice and are treated with respect.”

18-year-old charged with possession of cocaine, syringes, spoons

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A Supply man was charged with felony possession of cocaine recently, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.

Joseph Keith Huddleston, 18, of 132 Riverside Dr., was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia--syringe and spoon.

He reportedly has a $5,000 bond.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet on Wednesday, June 22 at 3 p.m.

The Board will enter a closed session to consider confidential personnel information and will return to an open session to possibly take action on personnel.

The following committees will meet on June 28 at the time indicated:

  • 9 a.m. Operations
  • 10 a.m. Safe Schools
  • 11 a.m. Curriculum
  • 2 p.m. Policy
  • 4 p.m. Budget

Produce stands can stay in Brunswick County...for now

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Commissioners in Brunswick County have decided to leave the issue regarding roadside produce stands along until there’s more discussion on the issue.

Commissioners banned the produce stands last year and heard a lot of backlash from residents and vendors, many of whom have continued to operate along the county’s roads.

Now, leaders plan to hold public hearings on whether to allow the stands to say in business before making a final decision.

17-year-old charged with possession of multiple drugs

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - According to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, Augusta Bettee Hobbs, 17, of 3456 Holden Beach Rd. in Supply, was charged with the following:

  • Possession of heroin
  • Conspiring to sell/deliver heroin
  • Maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for the purpose of distributing controlled substances
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of cocaine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Breaking and entering/injury to real property

Undercover agents investigate 32-year-old Supply man

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Supply man was arrested recently after undercover agents purchased controlled substances during an investigation.

According to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, Eduardo Johnson, 32, of 2137 Seashore Road, was charged with eight counts of trafficking opium/heroin.

He reportedly has a $500,000 bond.
