Twelve handguns, hydrocodone seized from Overman Electrical Services owner

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Brunswick County Vice Narcotic Agents and Oak Island Police agents seized over one pound of marijuana (540 grams), 12.1 grams of hydrocodone, 12 handguns and $7,616 from two Oak Island locations recently.

According to officials, agents searched a residence located at 310 N.E. 58th Street and Overman Electrical Services, located at 8310 E. Oak Island Drive, on June 9. They arrested the owner of the two locations on a variety of drug violations.

Charles Allen Overman, 68, was charged with the following:

  • Conspiring to traffic opium/heroin
  • Conspiring to traffic in marijuana
  • Possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana
  • Maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for the purpose of distributing controlled substances

John Ashley Woodman, 34, an employee of the business was charged during the search with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bolivia Market owner charged with trafficking K2

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the owner of the Bolivia Market after locating synthetic cannabinoid, best known as K2, last week.

The drug—often labeled as incense, bath salts or plant food—became illegal in the state of North Carolina on June 1.

On Thursday, June 8, agents arrested Hisham Ahmaad Ismail and seized approximately 83 dosage units of synthetic cannabinoid that were found inside the Bolivia Market, located at 4337 Olde Ocean Highway.

St. James woman arrested on Rx drug charges

Southport Police arrested a St. James woman for prescription drug theft.

Hollie Jeane Bricklemyer is charged with obtaining a controlled substance by false pretenses.

Police received a report on June 8 that oxycotin pills were missing from an assisted living center in Southport.

Upon completing an investigation and audit, Southport Police said they traced the missing pills to Bricklemyer, who confessed to taking them.

Shrimp and Crab trawling closes this week in part of the Intracoastal Waterway

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - A section of the Intracoastal Waterway is closing off to shrimping and crab trawling beginning this Sunday at 5pm.

The area in particular is from the main Intracoastal Waterway channel from the Ocean Isle Beach Bridge to the North Carolina/South Carolina state line.

The NC Marine Fisheries issued the order.

International Buddhist conference takes place in Bolivia

BRUSNWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The 27th Annual Conference of the Dhammayut Order will take place this weekend in Bolivia.

The international conference will be hosted by Wat Carolina Buddhajakra Vanaram from June 10-12.  The conference is rotated annually to different Temples throughout the United States.

The opening ceremonies will take place Saturday, June 11 at 8:30 a.m.

First case of rabies confirmed in Brunswick Co.

BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) – Officials have confirmed the first case of rabies in Brunswick County for 2011.

According to the Brunswick County Health Department, a fox was attacked and killed by three dogs in the Supply area June 2.  The fox was sent to the state lab in Raleigh for testing, which came back positive for rabies.

All three dogs that came in contact with the fox were humanely euthanized because they did not have a current rabies vaccination as prescribed by North Carolina state law.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Brunswick County Commissioner Charles Warren is demanding the sheriff's office investigate actions of several deputies and two of his fellow county commissioners.

Warren filed and incident report Tuesday, claiming he is being harassed.
