Boiling Spring Lakes city manager submits resignation

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) – The city manager for Boiling Spring Lakes submitted his resignation during the board of commissioner meeting Tuesday night.

The board accepted Dave Lewis' resignation and made the announcement after a brief closed door session. He will step down July 5, 2011.

Lewis has worked for the city of Boiling Spring Lakes since 2002 and became city manager in 2004.

Loud noises, explosions expected in Brunswick County this week

 

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Military Ocean Terminal at Sunny Point will conduct training exercises during the week of June 13-17.

Loud noises and explosions are possible during this week.

These exercises will be taking place in the Southport and Leland areas, as well as around the Sunny Point facility, according to Scott Garner with Brunswick County Emergency Services.

Board of Education to salute woman with 52 years of education experience

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Brunswick County Schools Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the County Commissioners’ Chambers at the David R. Sandifer Administration Building in Bolivia.

During the meeting, the Board will salute Pauline Hewett, who is receiving state recognition for 52 years of dedication and commitment to education.

The Board will also acknowledge the Brunswick County Schools finance department for receiving the following awards:

Sheriff's office signs agreement with ABC board in Bruns. Co.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Leaders in Brunswick County signed an agreement Monday night between the Sheriff and the ABC boards.

As part of a new state law, ABC boards must have a law enforcement officer available to provide security, paid for by the board.

Under the agreement, the sheriff's office will provide off-duty deputies as needed, so there won't be any effect on regular patrols.

Smoke likely again this morning

SOUTHEASTERN, NC (WECT) - Air Quality Advisory

Expect more smokey conditions today along the coast. Wildfires burning in Dare County, north winds and a capping inversion is allowing smoke to move in and cause unsafe air quality levels across the eastern third of the state. 

Children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions are recommended to stay indoors or limit long term outdoor activities.

This advisory will stay in effect until 3 p.m.
