Brunswick County landfill closed for holidays

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick County landfill will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25, along with Tuesday, Jan. 1 for the holidays, according to the county's website.

The county convenience sites will be closed on Monday only.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of The Fuzzy Peach Frozen Yogurt Bar in Southport. 

Located at 4130 Southport-Supply Road (between Quizno’s Subs and Bojangles'), this is the eighth location for the Fuzzy Peach Frozen Yogurt Bar franchise, with nine more locations to open soon.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - You’ve just recently been engaged to the man of your dreams and now, you’re planning the big day.

The Southern Cape Fear Bridal Expo is the place to start planning your perfect wedding.

Party rentals, caters, venues, florists, cake bakeries, wine shops, video productions, disc jockeys, accommodations, photographers, transportation, wedding officials and planners all specializing in weddings will be at the expo on Sunday, Feb. 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southport Community Building.

McDonald's to open 6th location in Brunswick County

McDonald's to open 6th location in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A sixth McDonald’s restaurant will soon be built in Brunswick County on US 17 in Supply near the US 211 intersection.

According to the Brunswick County Economic Development Commission, crews broke ground on the fast food restaurant last week.

The new McDonald’s is expected to open March 12, 2013 and will employ about 75 workers.

Fuzzy Peach in Southport opens

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - The Town of Southport just got even better for frozen yogurt fans -- the town's first Fuzzy Peach shop is officially open for business, according to its Facebook page. 

The store is located 5130 Southport Supply Road, next to Bojangles, in the Dutchman Town Center.

It's open Monday through Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.

The feature flavor is currently peppermint, and lactose-free Mango and no-sugar-added Strawberry Banana are also available.

Christmas by the Sea Parade Float Competition Winners Announced

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the winners of the Christmas by the Sea Parade Float decorating competition.     

In first place – Gilligan’s Oak Island Christmas by the Oak Island Animal Control complete with a live pelican on loan  from Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter.  

2nd Place – Oak Island Beach Preservation Society.   

3rd Place – Oak Island Beautification Club. 

Judges Award Tied-  Archer Daniels Midland and Walmart of Southport.

SBMS 'Good Neighbors' announced

SBMS 'Good Neighbors' announced

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The South Brunswick Middle School and Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce held its Fall Good Neighbor Breakfast to recognize 30 outstanding students.   The students were chosen by the teachers for demonstrating a positive work ethic and exemplifying a good “neighbor” in their school. 

Keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Mike Reaves.  Dr. Reaves encouraged the students to continue on the path of being a good citizen.
