Organization provides food for children at home | Children

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Matthew’s Ministry is an organization in Brunswick County that sends food home in a backpack on weekends for hungry children in the area.

According to the organization’s website, the ministry began in August 2010 when a teacher submitted a request asking for prayers for a child in her class that did not have food at home to eat. Kristie Disbrow, a local mom, asked the teacher if her family could donate food to the child in need.

As it turned out, there were many children in the school that did not have food at home, so Disbrow asked for food donations to distribute to hungry children and their families.

The organization’s website says Matthew’s Ministry works with social workers in Brunswick County to help determine who is in need. Food is currently provided to students in 11 different schools in Brunswick County.

According to Matthew’s Ministry, there are several ways to support its mission. Donations of food or money can be dropped off at “the little red wagon” at Southport Realty or checks can be sent to:
