activity in their neighborhood is high.

Linda Thompson lives in the area and said criminals tried to
shoot into her home with a BB gun. Now, her back door is shattered in pieces –
and so is her peace of mind.

"I'm scared to just walk out my front door coming and
going because of all the drug activity," said Thompson.

She says things have changed in the 25 years of living in
the neighborhood.

50 people arrested in Brunswick County drug "round up"

Over 50 offenders were placed under arrest and transported to jail during Operation "Spring Sweep."

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Deputies from the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office woke up early Wednesday morning in an effort to keep your neighborhood safer.

The Sheriff's Office had some wake up calls for suspects across the area.  The Vice-Narcotics Unit conducted a large "round up" of drug offenders in Brunswick County.

A list of 70 people with various drug offences were targeted.  Over 50 offenders were placed under arrest and transported to jail during Operation "Spring Sweep."

Despite the success of Wednesday's operation, Sheriff John Ingram wants his deputies to keep working hard.  "We did not come this far to give up and if your name is on that list and you have not been arrested yet then I suggest you turn yourself in," said Ingram.  "We want to make sure that we look into everything and get these people off the streets."

Heroin on the rise in Brunswick County

WECT.com has learned there has been a recent increase in heroin use and distribution in Brunswick County.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – As officials take control of one drug problem, another drug is on the rise.  WECT.com has learned there has been a recent increase in heroin use and distribution in Brunswick County.

Last year, Brunswick County lead the state in prescription pill arrests.  But now that it's more difficult to find pills, Sheriff John Ingram says the demand for heroin is going up quickly.

According to Ingram, the northern end of Brunswick County is having the most problems because of its close proximity to Wilmington.  He says that area sees the most drug trafficking.  Ingram says that users are mixing bags to strengthen the heroin.  Officials say that more people are overdosing because the drug is purer than it was in the past.

Ingram says he wants to get control of the heroin problem before it gets any worse.
