Brunswick Co. schools seek input on start times

Brunswick Co. schools seek input on start times

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Brunswick County Board of Education is seeking input on the 2013-14 school start times.

One survey will be mailed to each household within the system's student database Monday, April 15, 2013.  Directions are included on the one page survey which should be returned to the child's school.  If the family has multiple children who attend different schools in Brunswick County, the survey can be returned to the school of their choice.

It is important all families have the opportunity to participate in the survey.  Because the survey will be mailed, parents who are uncertain if their mailing address is properly recorded in their child's records should contact the school by Thursday, April 11.   Mailing labels for the surveys will be printed Friday morning.

The creator of the group, Laura Hunter who was the 2012 Brunswick County Teacher of the year, is calling for teachers to wear a red arm band until the end of the General Assembly’s session.

Hunter wants the GA to listen to educators when it comes to accountability, collaboration, and pay for teachers.

What does it mean to be a better man?

What does it mean to be a better man?

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Every day young men and women filter the noise and clutter of today's world in search of fundamental truths.  Messages, both overt and subliminal inundate the senses and have the ability to shape thoughts and actions.

The importance of countering negative influences surrounding our youth, particularly males, was writer and editor Kelly Harrington Johnson's call to action.

"A Better Man is my effort to share the kinds of stories boys want and need to hear: stories about right and wrong and courage and integrity and service," Johnson said.

Today, Johnson brings the power of these stories to Brunswick County.

Selected students in all Brunswick County high schools will have the opportunity to meet and hear first-hand answers to the very important question, "What does it really mean to be a man?"
