Crews prepare for 'Safe Haven' fire scene

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Residents have had questions about plans to burn down a building in Southport as part of the finale of Safe Haven.

Early Wednesday morning, the film's lead actress Julianne Hough (@JulianneHough) tweeted "gonna burn down the general store tonight, wish us luck," followed by a picture of the set and another tweet saying "gonna burn this mother down."

Special effects coordinator David Fletcher said crews will begin burning the building at midnight Thursday. There will also be fireworks beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday afternoon, crews were installing propane tanks, and other items to prepare for the burn. Crews also installed fire boxes in preparation for the shoot, which will prevent the structure from actually burning, even though there will be an illusion created that the entire building is burning down.
