Rabies clinic to be held at several locations in Brunswick Co.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Pet owners, mark your calendars! Animal Protective Services in Brunswick County is hosting a rabies clinic later this month at several locations.

According to officials, the clinic will take place Saturday, April 20. The cost is $6.

Locations and times are as follows:

  • Brunswick Animal Hospital, Supply - 8 am - Noon
  • Brunswick Forest Vet. Hospital, Leland - 8 am - Noon
  • Capeside Animal Hospital, Leland - 8 am – Noon
  • Four Paws Animal Hospital, Southport - 8 am - Noon
  • Leland Veterinarian Hospital, Leland - 8 am – 1 pm
  • Oak Island Animal Hospital, Oak Island - 8 am – Noon
  • Seaside Animal Care – Calabash - 8 am – Noon
  • Animal Shelter, Supply - 9 am – Noon
    (1 yr vaccines only)

Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer boat safety course

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - According to a new release, The Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a safe Boating Course on Saturday, April 20, May 18, June 22, July 20 and September 14. 

In addition to these classes, a special class for paddle sports will be held on June 1. All classes will be held at the Progress Energy Media Center on River Road in Southport.

Mobile Health unit to visit area Walmarts

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Mark your calendars…the mobile health unit will be at Walmart stores in Brunswick County this month.

According to Brunswick County leaders, medical services will be available based on the Health Department’s fee schedule. Free blood pressure checks will also be available.

The mobile health unit will be at the Walmart in Leland April 16 and the Walmart in Shallotte April 23.

Public Health nurses will also be providing immunizations at area public schools throughout the month of April.

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Ceremony at Massage Therapeutics by Joanne Duncan at 801 N. Howe Street, Suite 8.

Massage Therapeutics provides advanced massage therapeutics. Joanne Duncan is a licensed veteran practitioner with more than 15 years of experience.  

Duncan is a graduate from North Eastern Institute of Whole Health in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Big Toy Day scheduled for May 18

Big Toy Day scheduled for May 18

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Children in Brunswick County will have the opportunity to check out some cool wheels and big toys soon.

The fifth annual Big Toy Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport in Oak Island, according to a news release from an event organizer.

At the event, planes, trucks, cars and other vehicles will be on display.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Papa John’s located in Brunswick County are holding a fundraiser to support the students and families served by Communities in Schools of Brunswick County.

According to a press release, the Papa John’s located in Leland, Shallotte, Southport and Sunset Beach will donate 25% of the day’s sales of specific pizza specials from the first Wednesday of each month.

The next event will take place Wednesday, April 3.

“At Papa John's Pizza, we firmly believe strong relationships that provide educational support yield advancement opportunities for our children,” said Papa John’s Director of Operations Jeremy Caudill in a press release.  “Through our fundraising partnership with CIS, we hope to raise money for an organization that does just that.”
