BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you’re planning on buying a someone a new desktop or laptop computer this holiday season, keep in mind that you can donate your old one to a group that fixes them and gives them needy families in Brunswick County.

BC Computers for Kids takes old and computers with minimal damage, along with flat screen monitors, mice and keyboards, according to a news release from the County Solid Waste/Recycling Coordinator.

You can find BC Computers in building F at the Government Complex in Bolivia.

Brunswick Co. makes top 50 list for healthiest NC counties

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released its 2012 health rankings for North Carolina and the results are okay for Brunswick County.

Brunswick County was in the top 50% of healthiest counties in the state coming in at number 47.

The report is based on several factors, including lifespan, exercise habits, medical access and similar factors. 

New Hanover, Wake, Mecklenburg and Durham counties were all among the top 10.

Little Princess Ball is around the corner

Little Princess Ball is around the corner

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Mark your calendars, the Little Princess Ball is just around the corner.

The Little Princess Ball is a dance for girls in elementary school and their adult male escort. The young girls are encouraged to wear a party dress, ball gown, or their favorite princess costume.

The girls will dance the night away and take part in other activities like crafts and face painting. All girls will take home their very own tiara and wand.

The Little Princess Ball will take place Feb. 9, 2013, 3-5 p.m. at the Brunswick Center at Southport and the South Brunswick Island Center.

The cost is $10/per person.

Tickets go on sale January 14 – February 8 at Brunswick County Parks and Recreation or Communities in Schools.  Space is limited and payment is due upon registration.

Christmas by the Sea Parade this Saturday

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Christmas by the Sea Parade will step off at 2pm on Oak Island this Saturday, December 1.  

This is a hometown parade where friends and neighbors line the streets to cheer in the holiday season as beautifully adorned homemade floats and decked out vehicles pass filled with local children, members of clubs and organizations, business people and local heroes. 

The Christmas by the Sea Parade on Oak Island has been holiday tradition in the Southport-Oak Island area for almost 30 years.   

The parade will begin at 46th Street and traveling Oak Island Drive to McGlamery Street on Oak Island.    

There are plenty of places to watch the parade and with the completion of the second bridge to Oak Island getting to and from Oak Island is much easier.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – It’s a parade like no other – the Southport Christmas Flotilla.

The Flotilla will set sail along the Cape Fear River in Southport December 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Watch the decorated boats float down the river from anywhere along the riverftont from Marina/Old Yacht Basin to Kingsley Street.

Southport Elementary School art students will judge the boats on the variety and creativity of their decorations.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you’re looking for unique, local gifts for your holiday shopping, consider checking out the Southport Winter Craft Festival.

The event will take place Saturday, December 8 at Fort Johnston Garrison Lawn in Southport from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Vendors will have handmade arts and crafts in addition to the musical and dance entertainment at the event.
