WARM helps rebuild homes for those who can't

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry is hosting a luncheon Thursday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

WARM brings people together to rebuild homes and restore hope for low-income residents, many of whom are elderly or disabled.

According to the organization’s website, WARM works with individuals, organizations and businesses in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender Counties.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Labrador/husky mix in Brunswick County is in need of a home, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s website.

Cozmo is reportedly very playful, walks well on a leash and responds to basic commands.

Fees to adopt dogs over 6 months old is $65.00, and $46.00 for dogs under 6 months.

'Fall into Song' concert this Sunday

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A fall concert will take place Sunday at Calabash Presbyterian Church.

The South Brunswick Interchurch Council's Annual Fall Concert presents "Fall into Song." The concert will feature church choirs, church groups and area talent.

Attendees are requested to bring non-perishable food items for the food pantry.

The concert will take place Sunday, Sept. 30, 3-5 p.m.

Get ready for the annual Southport Wooden Boat Show

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Organizers are excited about the upcoming Southport Wooden Boat Show.

Wooden boats of all makes and sizes will be on display Saturday, September 29 at the Old Yacht Basin in Southport.

Visitors will meet and talk with the boat makers and owners and vote for their favorite entrant for the People’s Choice Award.

Kids can even build their own boats at the event and test their sea-worthiness. Additionally, the event will feature a Seafood Chowder Cook-off.

The free event takes place in Southport September 29, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Southport-Oak Island area Chamber of Commerce was honored to assist in a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony welcoming Dr. Paul A. Buongiorno, Board Certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association who has joined Dr. Kahai at Oak Island Pediatrics in serving Brunswick County.  

Dr. Buongiorno has more than 25 years of clinical experience in the management of psychiatric disorders.  

Dr. Buongiorno  will provide psychiatric consultations and ongoing medication management for the treatment of psychiatric disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders in adults.   

Dr. Buongiorno is presently engaged in full time private practice and teaching psychology students and family practice residents.

BCC hosts 9/11 memorial ceremony

BCC hosts 9/11 memorial ceremony

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A 9/11 memorial ceremony was held at Brunswick Community College Tuesday morning.

The ceremony was steeped in fire department tradition with a flag that was flown over Ground Zero during rescue and recovery operations on display.

A wreath laying ceremony took place with the ringing of the 5-5-5-5, signaling the line of duty death of a firefighter. Sounds from bagpipes and a singer filled the ceremony to set the mood.
