'Tammy' heads to Brunswick County

Spring Lake Park in Boiling Spring Lakes is closed to the public from Thursday, May 9 until Friday, May 24 for safety reasons while production crews film a movie.

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) – Spring Lake Park in Boiling Spring Lakes is closed to the public from Thursday, May 9 until Friday, May 24 for safety reasons while production crews film a movie.

Adobe Pictures, Inc. will be filming various scenes for the feature film, entitled Tammy.

Filming is scheduled for Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21.  Film-related activities could start as early as 6 a.m. to as late as 9 p.m. each day.

In order to achieve what is needed for filming, crews must prepare Spring Lake Park to look like their ‘set' in the movie.  This requires the crews to start prep work on Thursday, May 9.

Their work involves the construction of a temporary dock and other temporary structures.

Currently, there are no plans to do any work on the weekends.  However, they will have security on site day and night.

Movie filmed on location brings perks to Wilmington business

Gayleane White, co-owner of Two Fat Ladies, says when the restaurant gets back to business, loyal customers will notice several changes that were done by the film crew.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Film and TV crews in New Hanover County and surrounding areas have been pretty common for the past couple of years. A lot of filming takes place at Screen Gems Studios, but a lot is also done on location.

Along with the bragging rights of a town or business getting to say Safe Haven or Iron Man 3 shot nearby, crews sometimes leave things better than what they were before filming.

Filming for the movie Tammy, which stars Melissa McCarthy, has wrapped up shooting at the restaurant Two Fat Ladies Over a Simmering Pot on Dawson Street in Wilmington. Workers with Acme Cleaning Service spent part of the day at the restaurant restoring the place to normal Wednesday.

"We normally clean a set before they film and after they film," said Pam McGeehan, owner of Acme Cleaning Service. "We clean up any messes that were made. So people can get ready to bring furniture back in and get back to normal business."

Hollywood production takes over Boiling Spring Lakes

For the past two weeks, Spring Lake Park has been closed to the public while crews build a temporary set for the filming of Tammy.

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) - A major Hollywood production is taking over the city of Boiling Spring Lakes.

For the past two weeks, Spring Lake Park has been closed to the public while crews build a temporary set for the filming.

Starting Monday, Adobe Productions Inc. will be shooting several scenes for the hit film Tammy starring Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, and Dan Aykroyd.

The park has been transformed into Crawford's Beach Boat and Jet Ski Rental Office, because the script calls for a few summer scenes.

The park will remain closed as film crews plan to shoot on Monday May 21 and Tuesday May 22, weather permitting.

Drivers should be aware of a road closure on Juniper Road between Pine Road and Ash Road on Monday and Tuesday.

The production company has also hired three BSL Police officers who will work on Monday and Tuesday from 6 a.m. -8 p.m. to control traffic and monitor crowds.
