SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – The small town of Southport gained attention
Thursday in an article written about the movie Safe Haven in the New
York Times.
"This picture-perfect town is presented as the go-to
destination for terrorized damsels in distress," wrote Stephen Holden.
Holden goes on to describe Southport as a "tiny paradise"
and as a place where "a new beginning awaits."
Safe Haven was
released nationwide on Valentine's Day. The film, starring Julianne Hough, Josh
Duhamel and David Lyons, wrapped production this summer in Southport. It is
based on a book written by Nicholas Sparks, who based the novel in the town.
