BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A woman from Brunswick County was found dead in her home over the weekend after a neighbor called the police because they had not seen the woman for several days.

Captain Harrington from the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office said they found Sheila Lambs dead in her home near Ocean Isle Beach after a fire in her home earlier in the week. Harrington said the fire was small and likely put itself out before spreading.

Harrington said she had probably been dead in her home for several days before deputies found her Sunday. He said the fire does not appear to be suspicious and was accidental.

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) – Investigators are getting closer to finding out who is responsible for a number of breaking and entering that occurred in Boiling Spring Lakes during the past four weeks.

Detectives say thieves have managed to break into at least five homes along Longleaf Drive, South Shore Drive and Fifty Lakes Drive. They say guns and jewelry are what they are after.

Detectives hope to issue a warrant in the next few days.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation teamed up with the Electrical Safety Foundation International to distribute free copies of the new Plug In to Holiday Safety program to 150 elementary school classroom teachers in Brunswick and Columbus counties.

According to the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce, the objective of the program is to educate children in grades 3-5 about holiday fire prevention and electrical safety.

"The winter holiday season is traditionally a festive time of year when friends and family gather for celebrations," ESFI president Brett Brenner stated in the Chamber's newsletter. "Unfortunately, many of our favorite holiday traditions can also create fire and electrical safety hazards."

Each student is reportedly provided with a take-home sheet to help them share what they've learned about smoke alarms, portable space heaters and electrically-related fires.
