Jackpot! Woman gets more than she bargained for at pawn shop

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A retired woman living in Bolivia got a lot more than she bargained for at a pawn shop in Shallotte.

According to the NC Education Lottery, the Carolina Cash 5 ticket Brenda Fullwood bought matched all five numbers in Monday's drawing. Fullwood won a jackpot of $91,855.

Fullwood is the eighth Cash 5 jackpot winner in Brunswick County, and the second for a resident of Bolivia. According to the NC Education Lottery, players from Southport, Navassa, Leland, Shallotte and Calabash have also won Cash 5 jackpots.

Lottery officials say Brunswick County players have won more than $35.5 million in prizes since the lottery began in June 2011.

During the same time frame, Brunswick County education programs received more than $15.8 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers' salaries in grades K-3, school construction, need-based college scholarships, and prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds.
