Former Oak Island manager suing town for breach of contract
News

OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) – Former Oak Island Town Manager Jerry Walters is suing the town for breach of contract as of April 30, according to documents obtained by WECT.com.

Walters was terminated last year, and per his employment contract, which states that should he be terminated prior to the expiration of his contract, the town had agreed to pay him either a lump sum cash payment equal to a year's salary or a year's salary broken down into 12 monthly payments. Walters was also entitled to any accumulated vacation and a year's worth of benefits.

Walters says town leaders have not paid him the full year's salary he is owed, as called for in his contract.

He claims the town has only paid him for unused vacation time and hours he worked in December, before council fired him.

Walters is also suing for $10,000 in damages.
