The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office unveiled a new plaque on the side of it's building honoring former sheriff John Carter Davis.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office gathered on Tuesday to honor one of their own.

Former sheriff John Carter Davis witnessed the unveiling of a new plaque on the side of the sheriff's office. The plaque has his name on it because of everything he did while serving as sheriff in Brunswick County.

Davis was also awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine at Tuesday's event. It's one of the most prestigious awards presented to someone by Gov. Beverly Perdue.

"It's all overwhelming," said Davis. "It really is and like I said I don't know what I did to deserve it. I hired good people and had a long successful career."

Davis served as sheriff from 1983 until 1994.
