Fire dept. official warns of possible Southport scam | News

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Cpt. Todd Coring of the Southport Fire Department says he's gotten several emails recently from people asking where they can give their donations to the department for its ongoing fundraiser.

As it turns out, the fire department is not doing any type of fundraiser right now, and they're worried someone may be posing as a firefighter to try to scam people out of their money.

Coring says that as a result, if you are approached and asked to give money to the Southport Fire Department, you should call 911.

He did say that the Southport Rescue Squad is holding a picture drive fundraiser, but this is a separate agency.
