Brunswick County businessman running for NC GOP chair | Politics

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A business owner from Brunswick County is hoping to become the next chairman of the North Carolina Republican party.

Claude Pope, Jr., 52, owns Maritime Market on Bald Head Island, which he operates with his wife. He announced his candidacy Wednesday morning.

Pope is not new to politics. He served as the Wake County Republican Party chair from 2009 to 2010.

Pope wants to replace Robin Hayes, who plans to retire from the position.

The state Republican Party convention is set for Charlotte in early June.
