Tis the Season…to shop and save in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – Tis the Season…to shop and save! The Southport-Oak Island Christmas Open House will be November 3-5 and shops will stay open late until 7 p.m.. 

For participating shops and restaurants, look for a Coastal Christmas Tree flag. You can also register to win gift certificates, but if you purchase any item at the participating retailers, you will receive a purchase voucher good to redeem at participating restaurants between Nov. 3-12, according to the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce.

Brunswick County Holiday Show planned for Nov. 19-20

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick County Holiday Show, featuring local vendors, arts and gifts, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

According to the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, the boutique event will offer free parking and admission for children 12 and under. Adult admission is $5.

The Holiday Show will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 101 Stone Chimney Place in Supply.

Maritime Museum in Southport to close Thursday, Friday

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 25 and Friday, Aug. 26, according to a news release.

Shop to the Beat is this Thursday in Southport Shopping District

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The musical lineup has been unveiled  for the Shop to the Beat event on Thursday, August 18. 

Shop to the Beat is held the first and third Thursday in the Southport Shopping District from 4 until 6 p.m. Various entertainment acts are stagged throughout the town in front of stores and restaurants. The music fills the air while shoppers and diners stroll the beautiful streets of Southport.

Downtown: Watercolorist Jim McIntosh. Jon Morris-country & rock. Carson Hill-guitar & vocals. First Baptist Church at Boiling Spring Lakes puppets, story telling and Kicks for Christ. The Arctic Wind-guitar & vocals. 

Midtown: Suzanne Cassidy-vocals. Doo Wop Downtown-DJ & Cape Cuisers. Dan Parinello-DJ. Annie Jewell-violinist. Jim Ashley-folk & blues.

Salvation Army dedicates Southport store

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce joined The Salvation Army to officially re-dedicate The Salvation Army's newest Thrift Store at 4566 Long Beach Road. 

Major Richard Watts, Wilmington Corps Officer cut the official ribbon after The Salvation Army Brass Ensemble led by Lt. Colonel Peter Hofman played. A large crowd of shoppers were waiting and when the doors opened, they flooded in to find some great deals. 

Funds raised at many thrift stores across the nation go to further The Salvation Army mission "to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination." 

Oak Island's first farmer's market is today until 1 p.m.

Oak Island's first farmer's market is today until 1 p.m.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Oak Island’s first farmer’s market began early on Monday, July 18.

The market was open at 7 a.m. and will stay that way until 1 p.m. at the soccer fields on the corner of 46th Street and Dolphin Avenue, behind Town Hall.

Traveling mobile contracting company not holding up their end of the bargain

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick County Sheriff’s office has received several complaints from residents recently regarding mobile contracting companies.

The companies are going from neighborhood to neighborhood offering their services but not fulfilling their contracts.

Sheriff Ingram would like for the citizens of Brunswick County to be aware of these mobile companies including construction, paving, handyman services, etc. If you are approached by one of these companies, check their background and ask for references.
