Sign up now for Boiling Spring Lakes 5K

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you’re looking to start off 2013 staying motivated and in great shape, you might want to consider signing up now for an upcoming 5K in Boiling Spring Lakes.

The Venus Flytrap 5K, which also includes a one-mile fun run/walk, will take place Saturday, March 23, according to http://its-go-time.com.

The race will take place on the BSL Preserve and trails, mainly off of the pavement.

Only a few hours left to register for Reindeer Dash 5K

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Most 5K events require a registration fee, but not the Reindeer Dash 5K and Kids’ Candy Cane Relay.

The 5K and relay will be held Saturday at Brunswick Community College from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and instead of a registration fee, participants are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for kids.

The toys will go to Toys for Tots.

BCC hopes to gather Toys for Tots with inaugural Reindeer Dash 5K

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – There is still time to register for the first annual Reindeer Dash 5k and Kids’ Candy Cane Relay in Brunswick County.

Brunswick Community College is hosting the event to benefit Toys for Tots. Instead of a registration fee, organizers are asking participants to bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.

The race will take place Saturday, December 15 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness Center at Brunswick Community College. Start time is slated for 9:00 a.m.

Get ready for some holiday hoops

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Get ready for some holiday hoops.

The athletics department from Brunswick Community College released the upcoming Holiday Classic Basketball tournament schedule.

Tickets are $8 for a day pass or $15 for the entire tournament.

Athletes bring home 69 medals from state games

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – More than 60 people from Brunswick County traveled to Raleigh to compete in the North Carolina Senior Games.

The games took place throughout September and October and Brunswick County took home 69 medals.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the fall State Games.

Cougars fall to the pack 26-19

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – South Brunswick played their last game Friday night in the Waccamaw conference. Next year, the Cougars will join the Trojans in the Mideastern conference.

Friday, South Brunswick made the trip to Whiteville to face a 3-7 Wolfpack team.

The Cougars scored first, but couldn’t keep the lead. Whiteville came back to win the game 26-19.

The Cougars travel north in hopes of a win

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – There will be a battle on the gridiron in Brunswick County Friday night.

In week nine of the high school football season, South Brunswick travels north, where the Scorpions will host Friday night’s matchup.

With a 2-5 record, the Cougars hope to take down the North Brunswick team that boasts a 5-3 record.
