Get ready for the Labor Day weekend skate competition

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Oak Island Skate park will host its annual Labor Day weekend skate competition Saturday.

There are various divisions for all levels of skating. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.

There is a $10 entry fee with a free hot dog cookout provided to all participants.

The competition starts Saturday at 5:00 p.m. The skate park is located at SE 49th Street and is operated by the Oak Island Recreation Department.

Cougars slide ahead of the Eagles

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The South Brunswick High School Team traveled to New Hanover County in week two's matchups, taking on the Screaming Eagles of Ashley High School.

Both teams opened the season with a loss on the road. The homefield advantage was almost enough to give Ashley a W, but the cougars snuck ahead by one point.

The final score: South Brunswick 41, Ashley 40.

Surf off scheduled in Oak Island

OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) - An Oak Island surf off will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 at 8 a.m., according to town officials.

Sign-ups will be held Friday, Aug. 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Surfers of all ages are invited to participate, and proceeds will go towards scholarships to help Brunswick County High School.

Brunswick Novant Medical Center Foundation to hold golf tournament

Brunswick Novant Medical Center Foundation to hold golf tournament

BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) – An 18-hole golf tournament hosted by The Brunswick Novant Medical Center Foundation will be held Friday, Oct. 12, according to a news release.

Proceeds will go towards the BNMC Foundation’s Women and Children’s Wellness Outreach Initiative, which aims to provide health education new moms in the community as well as fighting childhood obesity.

The gold classic will kick off with registration and breakfast from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. Then, and 8:30 a.m. shotgun start is scheduled for the captain’s choice tournament.

There will be men’s and women’s categories for closest to the pin, closest to the center line, longest drive, hole-in-one contests, and a putting competition, and mulligans will be available.

Tabor City Chamber of Commerce hosting golf tournament in Bolivia

TABOR CITY and BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) – The Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its Business & Industry Golf Tournament Tuesday, according to a flyer.

Check-in and lunch begin at noon, with a putting contest kicking off at 12:45 p.m.

1 p.m. marks the shotgun start.

Prizes will be awarded for the following:

  • Teams coming in first and second place
  • Closet to Pin: All Par 3s
  • Long Drive: Men
  • Long Drive: Women
  • Putting Contest
