ACCIDENT: Vehicle rolled over near Midway Road, Old Ocean Hwy.

BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) – A vehicle rolled over during an accident Thursday morning in Bolivia.

According to Scott Gardner, the wreck occurred near Midway Road and Old Ocean Highway. He said there are no entrapments, but it is unclear if there are any injuries.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Can you guess what's wrong with this picture?

It seems someone in Brunswick County didn't pay attention to what kind of school this sign should direct drivers to. Virginia Williamson Elementary School...not middle school...is located at 1020 Zion Hill Road in Bolivia.

This new sign was placed on Hwy. 211 just before drivers make the right to enter the school.

Stretch of Caswell Beach Road to be resurfaced this week

CASWELL BEACH, NC (WECT) - Resurfacing work is scheduled to get underway Monday on Caswell Beach Road within the wastewater project area.

According to a notice posted on the Caswell Beach website, the affected area of road will be from the Progress Energy Pumping Station to the NC Baptist Assembly. It should be finished within a few days if the weather cooperates.

Man dies in single-vehicle accident in Boiling Spring Lakes

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WECT) - A man died in a single-vehicle accident in Boiling Spring Lakes this week.

According to a release from the BSL police department, the crash took place early Wednesday morning on Highway 87 South. 

The passenger in the vehicle, Mark Shane Bishop, 47 from Boiling Spring Lakes, was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.  The driver, Angela Jena Richards, was treated and released.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Each year the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction sends a transportation consultant to test the school buses in each county.

The consultant gives little or no warning and tests 10% of the fleet. Each bus goes through a 400-point inspection and receives points based on how many problems or defects are found.

The 2010-2011 inspection score for the Brunswick County fleet was 47.56, according to the N.C. Department of Instruction’s Transportation Services.

The number is is slightly more than the 43.34 average for the school districts in the East region.

Bald Head Island could be named one of NC's safest traffic communities

BRUNSWICK, NC (WECT) – AAA’s Carolinas’ Foundation for Traffic Safety will name the state’s safest traffic communities of the year Tuesday.

More than a dozen cities were awarded for leadership in traffic safety in three population categories – less than 10,000; between 10,000 and 30,000; and more than 30,000.

One city in each category will be named Traffic Safety Community of the Year based on crash statistics, number of law enforcement officers per capita, presence of a formal traffic safety program and existence of a special traffic division.

Bald Head Island is in the running for the recognition of the population category less than 10,000.
