WEATHER: As good as it gets

Bingo! Ask me what an ideal spring day should look like in southeastern North Carolina, and I respectfully submit to you April 26, 2013.  Sunny – dry – mild, but not hot.

This is going to be a nice Friday. However, as we move into Saturday, clouds will approach from the west bringing a slight up tick in the rain chances as we go into the evening – then the rain chances pick up as an upper level disturbance moves overhead during the day.

So get it in today - or tomorrow - because that moisture will likely set off showers Sunday through Tuesday with temperatures a bit below normal for this time of year.

Brunswick Co. has abnormally dry conditions

Brunswick Co. has abnormally dry conditions

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Severe drought has returned to North Carolina, according to the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

State officials are encouraging people to pay attention in case local communities enact water saving measures.

“At this point, public water supplies are fine in North Carolina,” said Tom Reeder, director of the N.C. Division of Water Resources. “But if dry conditions continue to occur, widespread impacts could quickly surface in 2013 when temperatures begin to increase and the growing season begins.”

The federal drought map shows eight counties in the southwestern part of the state have a severe drought; 57 are experiencing moderate drought; and 16 are abnormally dry.

Brunswick County falls into the abnormally dry category, which means the area could reemerge without adequate rainfall.
