BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Burn bans are still in effect in most parts of the region and the dry conditions are creating an inconvenience.

The land is too dry in Sunset Harbor and Zion Hill for firefighters to train, according to Fire Chief John Eeten.

Eeten said he can’t train his new recruits with real flames and won’t be able to until we get a good, soaking rain.

Brunswick Co. Fire Marshal says smoke is from Dare Co.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) — Brunswick County Emergency Services Fire Marshal Scott Garner announced that the heavy smoke that much of Brunswick County is experiencing is due to drift smoke from the Pain’s Bay Fire in Dare County.

As of 10 a.m. on Monday, there were no known wildfires or controlled burns in Brunswick County.

The Dare County fire has burned approximately 45,000 acres, according to Garner. He also stated that weather conditions overnight created an inversion and with the prevailing wind direction, the smoke has traveled to Brunswick County.
