6-foot-long shark washes ashore on Bald Head Island

BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WECT) – Yikes! A large shark (with some razor-sharp-looking teeth) washed ashore on Bald Head Island Thursday morning, according to the village’s Facebook page.

The six-foot-long shark was found on South Beach, near access 35.

What specific kind of shark it is remains unkown.

Alligator spotted on Caswell Beach this past weekend

CASWELL BEACH, NC (WECT) – On Saturday, Save the Cape posted photos to its Facebook page of an alligator that was spotted on Caswell Beach.

The post said the gator was near the shore at the Ocean Greens entrance.

Dolphin washes ashore on Caswell Beach

CASWELL BEACH, NC (WECT) — A WECT viewer submitted a photo of what he says is a rizzo dolphin that washed ashore on Caswell Beach this morning.

William Loyd submitted the photo to WECT's See it, Snap it, Send it feature. To submit your own photo, email or text pics@wect.com

He told WECT that the dolphin was deceased when he and his wife saw it this morning. It was approximately five feet long and had several scars on its back. He also said the dolphin died of natural causes.

Meet Henry, the Oak Island Pier mascot

OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) — If you're hanging out on the Oak Island Pier and your bait happens to be stolen from your line, the culprit may be an egret by the name of Henry.

The heron is the unofficial mascot for the Oak Island Pier and the owner told WECT.com that the bird has been harassing the fishermen there for years.

Viewer sends in photos of U.S. flag being flown beneath N.C. flag in Bolivia

BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) — A WECT viewer sent in these pictures of the United States flag being flown at half-staff below the North Carolina flag at the Brunswick County Courthouse in Bolivia.

Gov. Bev Perdue ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be flown at half-staff to honor the victims of the deadly tornados. Flags will be returned to full staff on Good Friday.
